The Victory Armor is an enemy in the Castlevania series. He is a knight armed with a greatsword.

Description[]

The Victory Armor is a particularly strong kind of Sword Knight clad in green armor who carries a greatsword. He tends to perform overhand melee slashes and thrusts.

In some games, destroying him will leave his spirit in the form of a Ghost Swordsman, which will continue the battle with the sword. In other games, he can throw his sword like a spinning boomerang for long ranged attacks.

Appearances[]

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood[]

First appearance of the Victory Armor in the series. These enemies can be found in the Clocktower. Once the Victory Armor detects an opponent, he'll start pacing back and forth, make a sudden stop and then unleash a quick overhead slash with his greatsword while giving a long step forward. Being hit by this attack will knock the player backward. He will repeat this attack a second time and then culminate with a long thrust forward that covers a great distance.

He is open to attack while he is pacing, but once he stops, it's better to move away from him. Maria's enhanced speed should suffice, while Richter's somersault may prove useful too.

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance[]

With a redesigned suit of armor, the Victory Armor is the first major, non-boss enemy encountered in the game. Even though he becomes a common type of enemy later on, two Victory Armors stand out as unique, one-time encounters early in the game: one in the Marble Corridor and another in the Shrine of the Apostates, both in Castle A. Defeating these two enemies will help Juste Belmont in leveling up quickly, considering that they are found in the early stages of the game.

The Victory Armor will always perform the same attack pattern. He starts by spinning his sword in one hand and then performs a lunging stab forward with the blade pointing a little above head's height. Staying at a safe distance from this move's reach and crouching will avoid this attack. He will then retreat a little, juggle the sword in his hand twice, and then throw it spinning in the air; the sword will first be sent flying diagonally upward a considerable distance, trace a downward arc, and then return to its owner like a boomerang. Once the knight catches his weapon back, the blade of the sword will suddenly become engulfed in flames and he will then perform two advancing downward slashes with it.

The Victory Armor encountered in the Marble Corridor can prove to be a challenging opponent due to the low level and basic gear the player will likely have at the point in the game when he is first encountered. Different strategies can be applied to fight him depending on the subweapon the player is holding and the available Spell Fusions they have at their disposal at that point in the game. However, a general strategy consists in first staying at a medium distance from him (just far enough to avoid his initial lunge), crouch, and start striking with the whip, which will allow the player to score several hits while the knight performs his first move. Keep accosting him as he steps back to throw his sword, which will be safely sent flying above the player. Keep attacking him, and when the sword comes back, jump left over it. Move away from the knight as he performs his two final downward slashes. The knight will commence the same pattern again at this point, so repeat the same process until he succumbs. When defeated, the Victory Armor will petrify and crumble to the ground.
