The Treant is an enemy in the Castlevania series. It is an ancient tree animated by a purely malevolent evil. It is a giant walking tree with a face on it and behaves and attacks similarly to other Golems or Great Armor enemies.
Origins[]
Ents are fictional creatures found in the Dungeons & Dragons role playing games, having been first introduced in the very first edition of the game in 1974, where they were first called Ents, and then Treants in subsequent editions. Their first name was a reference to the Tolkien's eponymous being.
They are portrayed as sentient trees with human characteristics, protectors of forests and antagonists to industrialization and despoiling of nature. They are typically allies of druids and fey, opposing malicious races such as orcs.
Appearances[]
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow[]
The Treant behaves almost exactly as a Golem (actually being just a modified sprite of this enemy), although it doesn't fire anything from its mouth and being slightly faster. They appear in the Garden of Madness and one can be found guarding the Magic Seal 2.
Gaining dominance of its soul grants the Healing Forest ability, which allows Soma Cruz to regenerate MP at a faster rate; a useful passive ability that can come in handy while exploring the castle, as well as during boss fights.
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin[]
In Portrait of Ruin, Treants appear in the Forest of Doom. Here, they drop the Club card, which is one of the five cards required to complete Wind's "The Gambler" quest. They have the same appearance as their Dawn of Sorrow counterparts, only a bit darker.

Trivia[]
- In the French version of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, the Treant is called "Dryade" instead, probably because of an error by the localization team due to the similarity between both monsters.
- While the Treant first appeared in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, the Wooden Golem from Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow could probably be considered to be its predecessor.
