Dawn of Sorrow - Teleport Room - 02

Warp Rooms, also known as Warp Points, Warp Zones, or Teleport Rooms, are special rooms within Dracula's Castle where the player can warp to other warp rooms.


Warp Rooms are generally colored in yellow or blue on the map to differentiate them from Save Rooms (red) and from the rest of the areas of the castle. The player cannot warp to a warp room in an area he or she hasn't been to. Inside these rooms some sort of portal or device can be found. The device is usually activated by pressing ↑ on the control pad while standing in front of it. Just entering a Warp Room will unlock it as a possible warp destination, it's not necessary to activate the device inside (the same applies for Curse of Darkness; Hector doesn't need to sit in the Teleporter Seat, only entering the room will unlock it).

These locations became common areas within the Castlevania series once Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was released, which introduced new exploring and gameplay elements inspired on the Metroid series, commonly referred to as "Metroidvania". As such, these locations allow the player to minimize backtracking in the big and lengthy areas that are connected within the castle. Enemies cannot appear inside a warp room.

In the first games where this mechanic was implemented (Symphony of the Night, Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance), the player would be taken to the next already unlocked warp room in the castle, usually arranged in a counterclockwise direction if looked through the map. In Aria of Sorrow, a map would come up after activating the device and the player would then be allowed to choose his desired destination by using the control pad. With the availability of the touch screen in the Nintendo DS trilogy (Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecclesia), the players could do both, choose their destination with the control pad or simply touch the warp room they wanted to warp to on the screen.

In Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, Dracula also uses Map Rooms and Wolf Altars to navigate through his castle and the city. In the DLC Revelations, Alucard uses Teleporters to do so.

Juste: ?! You mean Dracula's remains...
Death: My lord's fragmented remains?! Now it makes perfect sense...
Juste: What on earth are you talking about?!
Death: You have provided me with an answer. So I shall reward you with an explanation. It's simple. This castle is a creation of Maxim's will.
Juste: What?! But he's not capable of such a feat!
Death: True of the original Maxim, but possession of my lord's remains changes everything. The castles' two spirits now embody my lord's powers.
Juste: The castles' 'two' spirits?!
Death: Two spirits exist now within his body. His original spirit and a wicked spirit born from my lord's remains.
Juste: What a ridiculous notion...
Death: And so, two castles were born to embody the two spirits. Of the two spirits, the wicked one wanted the castles most.
Juste: Wait a minute! What do you mean by 'two castles'?!
Death: Ignorant mortal... Don't you realize that this castle has two "layers"? I don't want to have anything more to do with you. Farewell!
(Death enters the portal with evil laughter)
Juste: W-wait! Are you running away from me?
Death: This castle, as it is now, is a transient one. I must go and aid its completion...

(Death leaves)
