The Succubus is a boss in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate. She is a demonic yet beautiful creature originating from the Underworld –and a devoted servant to Dracula– who seduces men whom she then offers to her lord for him to feed upon.

Description[]

Simon Belmont first encounters the Succubus in an elegant courtyard at sunset decorated with hanging plants, where she has established her personal harem, comprised of many beautiful women. She lies accompanied by one of her consorts on a bed that sits on top of a floating pedestal. This pedestal is surrounded by some sort of living, tentacled creature that is coiled around it.

The Succubus greets Simon and invites him to stay with them and enjoy all the pleasures this garden has to offer. The tentacled creature then helps her descend to the ground, where she asks Simon if he likes the world she has created for him, and then attempts to drain the life force out from his body with her mouth, while at the same time a pair of bat-like wings unfurl from her back, revealing her demonic nature.

Simon manages to break from her influence, though, commencing with this the boss battle. The Succubus then goes airborne and starts attacking either by launching energy projectiles from her hands, by performing a quick homing twirling attack, or by creating an energy explosion from her body.

After sustaining enough damage, she returns to her bed and completely drains the life force from her consort waiting there, killing her while restoring her own life.

The Succubus now creates a protective aura shield around her and returns to fight Simon. In addition to this shield, she now can send an energy projectile straight down, which produces two shockwaves when it hits the floor which then travel in both directions along it. Meanwhile, the tentacled creature lifts one of the other women in the background and puts her on the bed, ready for when the Succubus requires another fix.

Simon must now attack the Succubus's surrounding shield until it weakens enough, at which point he can use his whip to latch on to it and pull it to break it apart, and then continue fighting the Succubus normally.

Again, once the Succubus has sustained enough damage, she'll return to her bed and attempt to drain the next victim. However, Simon can now latch to any of these damsels with his whip and pull them away from the Succubus, interrupting with this her health regaining cycle. The tentacled creature on its part will keep on taking women from the background and place them on the bed. Around this point, the Succubus will also start to frequently teleport around the room.

Once she has sustained enough damage, the final phase of the boss battle will begin, where the Succubus once again returns to her bed, although this time there'll be two consorts waiting for her. She will then use them to create two illusions of herself in an attempt to confuse Simon. Each "Succubus" will then take a position on the screen, one on the top, another on the left and the last one on the right - each surrounding herself with a protective aura. The demons will then start launching projectiles at Simon. He has to hit them with his whip until he uncovers the real one. The clones will disappear after a few hits, but the real Succubus will be more resilient and her shield will eventually turn vulnerable, at which point Simon can latch on to it with his whip and break it apart, bringing the Succubus out to continue the battle normally until he finally defeats her.

Once defeated, the Succubus will kneel and beg Dracula his forgiveness for having failed him. She is then slain by Simon.

Trivia[]

  • The peculiar hat the Succubus wears is designed after the same type of tentacled creature that is coiled around her floating pedestal-bed.
  • The Succubus's ability to create a fantasy world might be a reference to the original Succubus appearance in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, where she created a fantasy nightmare world in order to trap Alucard.
