A Standard Attack is a usually a forward facing attack performed by a character with their main attack weapon (often a whip). There is usually a designated button for performing this attack. In some games, there are two buttons, each assigned to a different selected weapon. Standard Attacks can usually be performed while standing, walking (though they will usually stop walking when performing an attack), crouching, jumping, or climbing stairs or ropes.
Some weapons can provide special attacks in addition to the standard attack. The Vampire Killer can sometimes be swung in multiple directions, be brandished after attacking, be imbued with flames for an Item Crash, or launch Fireballs or other projectile at the same time as attacking. Whips in modern 3D games often have a wide variety of different attacks they can perform.
