Soul Eater Ring DoS Icon

The Soul Eater Ring is a ring that increases the appearance rate of souls. This accessory usually isn't available at the beginning of the game, but eventually appears at the shop once certain criteria has been met. It's generally the most expensive item in a game by far and obtaining the required wealth to purchase it can become a difficult task by itself.

Game specific information[]

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow[]

First appearance of this ring in the series, along with the introduction of Soma Cruz, who due to his native ability to absorb souls is the only person who can make use of it (a trait that would continue in most following installments where he also appears in). In addition to increasing the appearance rate of tactical souls, the ring also gives a LCK boost of +5.

It can be purchased from Hammer's shop for 300,000G. Due to its steep price, the player will likely have to make use of creative ways in order to acquire the required amount of wealth to afford it. Nonetheless, the player will almost surely become able to afford the ring near the end of the game if they have explored most of the castle and sold most of their extra inventory at the shop, in addition to all the gold they had accumulated during their journeys.

There are many other methods to obtain enough gold to purchase the ring, but in general the player will need Tsuchinoko's soul, V.I.P., in order to afford it in a reasonable amount of time. Regardless, the player must expect to do a lot of item farming.

One method is to grind 9 Muramasas from Lubicants and sell them to obtain 243,000G, then equip V.I.P., which will drop the Soul Eater Ring's price at Hammer's shop to 240,000G, at which point it can be afforded.

Another method is to equip the Mimic's soul, Cash Back, and head to the Clock Tower. Find the Save Room with a spike pit just outside, jump into the spike pit until you're close to death, then refill your health in the Save Room. You will gain thousands of gold every time you do this.

If the player only needs a few thousands more in order to afford the ring, the Giant Skeleton corridor in The Arena can be used to reliably get 1,000G each time it is explored. However, this will potentially be even more time consuming to complete over 200 times than farming Lubicants.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow[]

Dawn of Sorrow introduced a new mechanic called Weapon Synthesis in which both a specific weapon as well as a soul are required in order to create a new, more powerful weapon. This in turn allows the resulting weapons to be combined with yet other souls to create even more powerful weapons. In addition to this, certain areas of the game can only be accessed through the use of certain souls. As such, the acquisition of a number of determined souls does become mandatory in order to obtain the best ending and/or to have access on the best arsenal the game has to offer. Because of this, the Soul Eater Ring has much more relevance this time around than in the previous game.

Once again, Hammer sells this ring at his shop for 300,000G, although it isn't available from the beginning and will only appear after defeating the Puppet Master in the Demon Guest House. Equipping the ring will double the rate at which souls drop in the standard game. Like in the previous game, it also boosts LCK +5.

Nonetheless, since acquiring the ring as soon as possible is much more important in this game, the player may opt to actually farm certain souls in order to synthesize them with weapons at Yoko's shop as much as necessary and then sell the resulting and more valuable weapons to Hammer to make profit and eventually become able to afford the ring.

A relatively quick way to obtain the necessary wealth to afford the ring consists in crafting and selling as many Joyeuses as necessary (each worth 25,000G), which in addition to the amount of gold the player has collected during their adventure, as well as selling any other extra inventory they have picked up, should at one point suffice to acquire the necessary wealth to purchase the ring. Taking the two latter factors in consideration, it shouldn't take more than crafting three or four Joyeuses to finally afford the ring after making a first run through all the main areas of the castle (see the Joyeuse article for the specific weapons and souls required to forge it).
