For the Rondo of Blood music track, see Slash (music).

Slash, also known as Cut or sometimes as Sword, is a damage type found in the Castlevania series. This method of attack involves taking a bladed weapon and swinging it in an arc, whether that arc be horizontal or vertical. Such weapons that have slashing effects include swords, great swords, axes, etc. Sometimes spears are associated with the Slashing effect, but a better description for them would be "Piercing", as you jab at an enemy with them as opposed to swinging.

Additionally, wind-element skills/spells in games without wind damage type are classified as Slash.

Game specific information[]

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night[]

Main article: Slash/Symphony of the Night

Known as Cut or "Bloody" damage in Symphony of the Night. Generally, any kind of attack that would draw blood, deals Cut damage. This includes sword-slashing (except Stone Sword) and spear-piercing damage, and is opposed to weapons that do Hit (blunt) damage. In this game, if a weapon deals elemental damage or has a status modifying effect, it also deals Cut damage. When dealt Cut damage, enemies will flash red and, depending on the enemy, will squirt blood.

Drawing blood from enemies is a requirement of the Dark Metamorphosis spell, in which Alucard needs to bathe himself with blood drawn from an enemy slain with a "cut" attack to regain some HP.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow[]

Main article: Slash/Aria of Sorrow

Known as Sword damage in Aria of Sorrow. It is indicated by blood particles on the target. Most sharp-edged weapons deal this type of damage, regardless of whether or not they make a slashing or piercing attack, or if they also deal out elemental or status modifying damage. The only exception is Vjaya and Gungnir. Weapons that deal out blunt damage, actually do not deal out any special type of damage.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow[]

Main article: Slash/Dawn of Sorrow

In this game, Slashing damage only refers to damage from a sword or a great sword that is dealt from the edge of a bladed weapon. Damage dealt from the sharp tip of a weapon (rapiers, knives or spears), instead deal Piercing damage. Swords that also deal elemental or status modifying damage, also deal Slashing damage.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin[]

Main article: Slash/Portrait of Ruin

Slash type damage in this game is similar to Hit from Symphony of the Night. This damage is caused by the sharp edge or sharp tip of a weapon.

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia[]
