A Shortcake is a food item that recovers health in Castlevania.
Its first appearance was as a food item for Maria in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and later Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles and is a smaller portion of a Birthday Cake.
In Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, it gives you 11 HP, which is the smallest amount for any dessert, giving you one less than a Tart. It gives you one more HP than a Chinese Bun, which gives the lowest food value for any chinese bun. It is dropped by a Salem Witch.
Shortcake is also found in Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (in the Anti-Soul Mysteries Lab) and Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (dropped by a Wyvern) and is the only kind of pastry found in these games.
A strawberry shortcake is called a Gateau Fraise in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. It can be obtained by dropping a $1000 gold piece into the register at the City of Haze Bakery, which is the hardest cake to obtain there, being harder to get than a Tarte au Poire ($500). It can also be found at 13th Street.
