The Shield Rod is a weapon found only in Symphony of the Night. Because SotN is the only game in the Castlevania series with shields, it is also the only one to contain the Shield Rod. The Shield Rod is used in one hand while a shield is equipped in the other. In combination with a shield, the Shield Rod often has beneficial effects, Shield Rod Spell. such as monster summoning or temporary stat boosts.

Mablung Sword ("Lemuria Sword" in the Japanese version) is a similar weapon. It has the same properties of the Shield Rod, but have higher damage output and a defense bonus, plus it is slightly faster to wield. Coupled with the Alucard Shield, Mablungs are considered one of the best weapons of the game, barring a Crissaegrim (instantaneous high-damaging swings) or potentially the Muramasa or Sword Familiar (if levelled enough).
