The Red Rust is a nearly useless sword in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and usually the first two handed weapon found in the game. It is always dropped by the second Bone Scimitar encountered. It is very slow, takes two hands to hold, reduces your attack power, and occasionally fails to swing due to a curse placed upon it. It is also not possible to swing it diagonally downwards. It is also the first weapon found that can Curse enemies, which can be useful against the first Doppelganger, as it prevents him from drawing his sword.

The Red Rust is the weakest of the Katana-style 2 Handed Swords. The next sword in the series is the bamboo blade Takemitsu, which is similar, except that it doesn't jam, has a Hit instead of a Curse attack, and has a little better attack power. It is longer than most weapons found early in the game, however, and can be a great sword to equip if you wish to handicap yourself.
