Mothman is a moth-like enemy appearing in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. It is an odd-looking, bug-eyed creature that hops around and sprinkles poisonous dust in its wake. It usually poses no real threat unless there are many of them in a small area.
Mothman is one of the three secret cryptid-based hidden creatures in Dawn of Sorrow, along with the Yeti and the Flying Humanoid. To make it appear, Soma must use the soul of a Rycuda, or any Lightning-based weapon (such as the Gungner), on the device found between two Final Guards at the Pinnacle to activate the nearby searchlight and attract it.
No longer as secretive as in the previous game, Mothmen can be found in a few rooms of the 13th Street and the Nest of Evil. They may pose a bit of a threat this time, though, as sometimes they can be encountered in numbers and/or in rooms inhabited by other enemies. Fortunately, a single cast of Holy Lightning will be enough to clear the whole areas they appear in, although the player should be wary if there is poisonous dust still falling afterward.
