Monster Vials (called "Capsule Monsters" in Japanese versions) in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night can be used once to summon a low-level monster to come to your aid. Monster Vial 1 summons a Merman, Monster Vial 2 summons a Bat, and Monster Vial 3 summons a Skeleton. They are usually dropped from the kind of monster that they summon, though they can be found elsewhere as well. The fourth "Capsule Monster", the Homunculus, is available to Soma Cruz in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow using the Homunculus's soul.
