- For the Lords of Shadow 2 weapon, see Masamune (Lords of Shadow).
The Masamune is a famed Japanese samurai sword.
In Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Masamune could be considered the most powerful weapon; although a label is most commonly given to the Crissaegrim. Its special ability is extremely powerful, with a large hitbox and long range. Additionally, it grants invincibility, can be used back-to-back, and costs no mana. This means it can be used to deal continuous high damage without any threat of retaliation. Although it cannot be used while walking as the Crissaegrim can, the slash flurry effect means short jump attacks are effective even on enemies low to the ground, allowing similar 'never have to stop' functionality on weaker enemies. It is also relevant to point out it takes 2 hands to use, while the Crissaegrim takes only 1 (allowing for two Crissaegrims to be equipped and used simultaneously for a twice-as-destructive effect).

Trivia
Masamune are prized blades and katana of exceptional quality, created by swordsmith priest Goro Nyudo Masamune. His career saw him create blades of such revolutionary method and forge that defined not just the blades of the late Kamakura era of Japan, but also the definition of the best made katana of Japanese history. His works are of the Soshu tradition, with flat but heavy, wide, and elegantly tapering blades, and was praised as the foremost master in bringing out the artistic and beauty of katana, through fully emerging the surface activities in the steel known as hataraki, which in appraisal and functional appreciation, is the equivalent of noticing the anatomical physic and health of a fit, strong human being. Unlike most blades before and after him, Masamune specialized in bringing the most out the minerals of the impure carbon mixed black iron sand steel of tamahagane, layering them in his forging method of soshu kitae to have its composition work together and complement another with cloystered flexible strength, and getting the tamahagane to bloom nie and nioi on the surface, being specks and clusters of miniscule crystals of martensite, pearlite, and troosite, that are said to allow the blade's cut to properly glide through the targeted mass without resistance, and are said to look like stars under the night sky, as much as if the blade was literally layered on with such features; hands on observers are said to note that such blades of his sparkle iridescent prismatic colors like a rainbow, shine a light blue purpleish color like a clear autumn sky, and shimmers constantly under different angles of light. His mastery of hamon, or the temper line of the blade where the cutting edge meets the body made through differentially hardening the edge, was also legendary; Masamune sought designs devoid of strict patterns, and saw his hamon make use of perpendicular and parallel lines of nie, making his swords look like as if they surge with power. Though his works largely saw him not sign most of them due to being under the employ of the shogunate, his name was constantly echoed by many a warrior and lord throughout the ages for his sword's grace, strength, durability, beauty, and purity as the unmatched creator of katana.
