Masakado's Helm is the haunted helmet of the Japanese general Taira no Masakado who lead a small rebellion and lost his head. The helmet gives a Defense boost of +15, a Strength and Constitution boost of +10, but at the expense of -10 Luck. The helmet is essentially a more extreme version of the Stone Mask (+5 STR, +5 CON, +2 DEF, -5 LCK), and it's the ultimate evolution of that mask. The intermediate evolutions between a Stone Mask are mostly worthless and should be avoided until you are ready to create the Masakado's Helm. Masakado's Helm is created by adding Adamantine to a Topknot, which is created by adding a Nodachi to a Tengu Mask, which is created by adding a Spirit of Fuji to a Face Guard, which is created by adding a Gano to a Stone Mask.
The Masakado's Helm and Stone Masks are the only head protective items worth equipping that don't have the greatest amount of Defense at any given time. The Masakado's Helm has one less total attribute point less than the Cross Helmet (+26), which has the highest amount of Defense for a helmet. Masakado's Helm is similar to another Japanese helmet that appears in Castlevania, the Shogun Helmet, which is found in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and sacrifices Intelligence instead of Luck for other high statistics.
