Marker Mode Tip

Marker Mode tip

"Use "markers" to help you remember important places on the map"
—Marker Mode[1]

The Marker Stones allow Leon to place a mark on the map in Lament of Innocence. Several incarnations of these feature were later simplified and named Marker Mode instead.

These are useful for marking points of interests, and secret areas. It comes in handy for back-tracking purposes in the later part of the games wherein the player might have already acquired most items or skills necessary for map completion.

Game-Specific InformationEdit

Castlevania: Lament of InnocenceEdit

Lament of Innocence is the first game that allows players to mark points of interest on the dungeon's map with a cross icon. In this game, there are several collectible items that allow the player to change the color of their feather pen.

Castlevania: Curse of DarknessEdit

Marker Mode

The second 3D Metroidvania game made this marking feature more simplistic. Unlike in Lament of Innocence where obtaining a Marker Stone unlocks this feature, and the colors are unlocked by separate items, Curse of Darkness only requires the player to obtain a relic item in a treasure chest found in Garibaldi Temple.

Also take note that it is in this game where the feature is known as Marker Mode.

Many feather pen colors are already at the player's disposal - ranging from white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and black which creates a cross icon on the map with the respective color.

Castlevania: Portrait of RuinEdit

Feather Pen icons are automatically placed in the Map Screen (lower screen of the DS). However, the player is only limited to have 5 feather pens per single map. These pens can be simply dragged on the desired parts of the screen, and can still be moved at any time.

Castlevania: Order of EcclesiaEdit

This feature also returns to the third game in the DS and is actually same with the one used in Portrait of Ruin.
