The Lion is an armored man-lion beast. It usually cringes in fear, but will occasionally swipe with his claws. It appears in the Forbidden Library in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which is filled with other creatures from Frank Baum's story, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, including the Scarecrow and the Tin Man. Although it appears like a type of werebeast, it is not affected by the Were Bane. It also does not deal out "cat" damage, and is thus unaffected by the Cat-Eye Circlet.
Origins
The Cowardly Lion makes his first appearance in the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He is the last of the companions Dorothy befriends on her way to the Emerald City, where he ambushes her, Toto, the Scarecrow, and Tin Woodman. When he tries to bite Toto, Dorothy slaps him for trying to attack him, where she discovers that the Lion is actually a coward, which he admits. The Cowardly Lion joins her so that he can ask The Wizard for courage, being ashamed that, in his cultural role as the "King of the Beasts", he is not indeed brave.
Description
The Lion wears blue armor and has tan-orange fur with a thick white mane extending around his face.

Trivia
- Lion is just a modified palette swap of the early-game Sword Lord that does not generate a Vandal Sword, and attacks in a similar way, although he has less reach due to his claws. He is less aggressive: initially he will back away to the edge of the screen if Alucard walks towards him and will only advance if Alucard's back is turned. He only attacks if Alucard is within his attack range: if Alucard remains close to him he will not try to back away and constantly attacks.
