Original Castlevania lore

Larva is a flying spirit with the body of a worm and sometimes the head of a man. They fly and wiggle around the screen in lazy, aimless patterns and are often continuously spawning from off the screen.

AppearancesEdit

Super Castlevania IVEdit

A red worm appears in the Unliving Quarters of Super Castlevania IV. It moves erratically around the room and seems to float through the air or crawl against the walls, as it also wraps its body around the pillars in the background. Most of the times it remains above the upper half of the screen, which makes it hard to hit, and will eventually leave the room if it is not killed in time. Successfully defeating it will award the same amount of points than those obtained from killing a Bone Dragon.

Castlevania: Rondo of BloodEdit

Appropriately called Larva Skeletons in Rondo of Blood, these enemies are now conformed by a human skull and a spine, giving them the appearance of a flying worm. They are noticeable shorter than their Super Castlevania IV counterparts and spawn in infinite numbers from outside of the screen and then home toward the hero.

They generally appear in areas where advanced platforming is required, like rooms with several staircases or with moving platforms.

Castlevania: Dawn of SorrowEdit

In Dawn of Sorrow, Larva is described as being a cruel spirit that inhabits a giant worm, and this time it actually boasts the head of a centipede-like creature. Their behavior is more akin to that of their Super Castlevania IV counterpart, by initially slithering randomly high above the room and then either homing erratically toward Soma or just leaving the screen.

Castlevania: Portrait of RuinEdit

Larvae in Portrait of Ruin have a slightly different behavior, although they share some similarities with their Rondo of Blood counterparts. They spawn infinitely from outside of the screen and fly in a general straight direction while swiftly slithering their bodies in a zigzag manner. This time around, they boast the head of a bearded man attached to the body of a worm.
