The Jam Wasteland (Japanese: ジャムの荒地 Jamu no arechi) is a desolate area in the northwest of Transylvania in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest and is the location of Deborah Cliff (Japanese: デボラの崖 Debora no gake). Two paths that are not connected to each other run through this area, each of which takes Simon to a dead-end at a different part of Deborah Cliff.

Southern Path

The southern path through the Jam Wasteland (called Jam Wasteland in the NES Game Atlas) is the end of a short track of land Simon crosses after he shows to the Ferryman, Dracula's Heart. To reach it, you must pass Brahm's Mansion, walk a short distance, and cross the Dead River via some floating platforms. At the end of the area you will find the southern section of Deborah Cliff, near from which you will find a gypsy who will give you a Diamond, which is a weapon that deflects off of the ground when thrown. Since this is a dead-end, you must turn back afterward.

Northern Path

The northern path through the Jam Wasteland is the area beyond the town of Oldon (called Jam Wasteland on the signpost in Oldon, and referred to as Deborah Cliff in the NES Game Atlas). In the middle is a river with bobbing logs that does not appear on the map. To pass it, you must have the Red Crystal equipped and kneel at the base of the cliff. At the end is the northern section of Deborah Cliff, which you can normally not pass. A spirit in the form of a whirlwind will take you up the cliff and drop you off at Bodley Mansion, with no way of returning the way you came without looping around the whole game map.
