The Jam Wasteland (ジャムの荒地 Jamu no Arechi?, lit. "Wasteland of Jam") is a location in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. It is a desolate area in the northwest of Transylvania and it is here where the so-called Deborah Cliff (デボラの崖 Debora no Gake?, lit. "Deborah Cliffs") is located. Two paths that are not connected to each other run through this area, each of which takes Simon Belmont to a dead-end at a different part of Deborah Cliff.
Southern Path (Barren Land)[]
The southern path through the Jam Wasteland is the Barren Land, according to design map in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection (called simply Jam Wasteland in the NES Game Atlas); it is the end of a short track of land Simon Belmont crosses after he shows to the Ferryman, Dracula's Heart. To reach it, the player must pass Brahm's Mansion, walk a short distance, and cross the Dead River via some floating platforms. At the end of the area, the player will find the southern section of Deborah Cliff, near from which they¿ll find a Gypsy who will award them a Diamond, which is a sub-weapon that deflects off of the ground when thrown. Since this is a dead-end, the player must turn back afterward.

Northern Path (Deborah Cliff)[]
The northern path through the Jam Wasteland is the area beyond the town of Oldon (called Jam Wasteland on the signpost in Oldon and in the design map in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection, and referred to as Deborah Cliff in the NES Game Atlas). In the middle is a river with bobbing logs that does not appear on the map. To pass it, the player must have the Red Crystal equipped and kneel at the base of the cliff. At the end is the northern section of Deborah Cliff, which the player normally cannot pass. A spirit in the form of a whirlwind will take the player up the cliff and drop them off at Bodley Mansion, with no way of returning the way they came without looping around the whole game map.

Howard & Nester[]
The Jam Wasteland and Deborah Cliff made an appearance in a Howard & Nester comic strip, which poked fun at how difficult it could be to get to Bodley Mansion.
