Grando is the name used for any ice glyph, which means Ice in Latin. The regular Grando glyph causes a large ice dagger to form in front of her hands (called Ice Bolt by Shanoa), which then launches forwards across the screen. The Vol Grando glyph causes a large fan of ice crystals to erupt from the ground in front of her (called Freeze-Over by Shanoa).
When any two Grando glyphs are involved in a Glyph Union, the Grando Glyph Union occurs, which is a wide swirling blizzard that surrounds Shanoa. When used with any normal Weapon glyph, a Glyph Union will cause Shanoa to swing a large Ice Sword above her head. The Burn to Ice Glyph Union is performed with any Ignis (Fire) glyph. This causes an ice crystal with a fiery center to be formed with moves forwards slowly. A fireball and ice crystal ball also move forwards, which travel up and down and criss-cross each other with it towards the end of the screen.
Shanoa can use the regular Grando (Ice Bolt) glyph in Castlevania: Harmony of Despair.
