Doves are Maria Renard's main attack weapon in most games she has appeared in. Two doves are released and attack forward. In The Dracula X Chronicles version of Symphony of the Night, her main attack birds behave like doves do, but appear as owls.
Doves were able to be utilized by Maria's ancestors, who allowed Desmond Belmont to use them as a sub-weapon.
Game specific information[]
Castlevania: Order of Shadows[]
Desmond can find the Doves sub-weapon at the end of the upper broken bridge in the Cavern. He uses them differently than Maria does; he releases two doves which flutter forward and downward and fly off the end of the screen, or downward and forward.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PSP)[]
Maria started using owls as her primary attack bird instead of doves some time after the events of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. They are used in exactly the same way, though a little larger. Maria is also able to have multiple owls out at the same time.
Castlevania Judgment[]
Maria's primary attack weapon is a caged owl, which she calls Osca. The cage is set upon a pole and can be controlled by either Maria swinging it or by the owl causing the cage to move. While Maria holds onto the cage, he offers her a hovering ability and can attack with flaming flight pattern while Maria struggles to hold on.
During her ultimate attack, he drags Maria around for a bit and breaks free from the cage and deals massive damage to her opponent, then lands on her head. In the opening cinematic, he is found observing the fight between Simon and Alucard and reports back to Maria.
Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls[]
Maria can use a wide variety of Birds in this game the same way she uses Doves in earlier games. Her pet Dove "Coco" is the most basic type of bird that she can use and the one she starts with. Several other more powerful doves also appear in the game, including the Queen Dove, War Dove, and Golden Dove. The older version of herself also uses Doves.
