Schmoo is an enemy in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Description[]
A floating disembodied head with a grotesque appearance (apparently, a severed head covered with a cowl and soaked in blood) that flies erratically, careening around the room to attempt to hit the player. It does a surprising amount of Dark damage with each hit and can be hard to target. Most importantly, Schmoos drop the Crissaegrim, although only rarely. Earning the Crissaegrim essentially makes the rest of the game very easy.

Trivia[]
- Schmoo is the only enemy in the Forbidden Library based on a literary source other than The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Its presence there suggests that Dracula's library includes comic books in addition to literary classics.
- In the original Japanese version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, this enemy is called "Kyū", probably being a parody of Q-tarō, an obake (Japanese legendary creature) from the comic Little Ghost Q-Taro.
- In North America, this creature was renamed as "Schmoo", which is likely a reference to Shmoo, a character from the Li'l Abner comics. Shmoos are little white creatures shaped like bowling pins with legs that can adopt almost any form they want.
- A similar enemy called Arabaki later appeared in Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance.
- Schmoo is referenced in Terraria, a sandbox game with building, metroidvania and role-playing elements. In the description of the Arkhalis sword (which itself is a reference to the Crissaegrim), it says: "I didn't get this off of a Schmoo".
