The Forbidden Area is a stage in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. It's bordered by the Underground Reservoir and the Study.

Overview

Behind the big waterfall located at the Underground Reservoir lies the entrance to this area. To access it, equip the Undine soul to be able to walk on the water's surface, and then equip and activate either the Curly, Manticore or Devil's soul to dash through the waterfall. Soma Cruz will receive the Eversing armor along the way and find the door leading to the Forbidden Area on the other side. Once inside, Soma may open an alternate path to the Study by going to the uppermost room, where he'll find a switch. Stepping on it will lower the gate that blocks the passage between the two places.

This area seems to be an abandoned pirate's cove, containing a sunken ship, crates and barrels everywhere, piles of gold, and, fitting the motif of the area, it also has many treasure chests that contain considerable amounts of gold. Two items, the valuable Joyeuse and the Claimh Solais (the most useful weapon in the game), can also be found here. There is no boss in this area.

Trivia

• One of the final rooms of this area contains a trap chest full of Rippers. A player can level up to level 30-40+ if they enter the room, kill all the Rippers (and the attacking Gargoyle), exit and repeat the process. The reach and overhead swinging animation of the Claimh Solais allows all Rippers to be killed in just one or two swings.
