Not to be confused with Flame Elemental.

Efreet is an enemy in the Castlevania series. It is a monster enveloped entirely in flames. Uses its complete control of this fire to attack.

Origins[]

Brooklyn Museum - Arghan Div Brings the Chest of Armor to Hamza

The Ifrit Arghan Div Brings the Chest of Armor to Hamza (Brooklyn Museum).

The Efreet (or Ifrit) is a jin-like being and also held to be a death spirit drawn to the life-force of a murdered victim seeking revenge on the murderer.

As with ordinary djinn, an efreet may be either a believer or an unbeliever, good or evil, but it is most often depicted as a wicked, ruthless and evil being. Efreets are believed to inhabit the layers of the underworld or desolated places on the surface, such as in ruins or caves. According to Islamic sources, efreet are a fiery appearance with flames leaping from his mouth and may endanger people, but can be destroyed if someone recites a Islamic prayer near it.

For Christians, making the sign of the cross also lets the Ifrit disappear. In folklore, they are commonly thought to take the shape of the deceased at the moment of death, or the appearance of Satan.

Appearances[]

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness[]

The Efreet is a creature that resembles a muscular humanoid torso engulfed in flames that hovers around. It mainly attacks by consecutively sweeping its arms; it can chain this attack for up to a five hit combo and it cannot be staggered while doing so. It can also attack by sometimes expelling a stream of flames from both its hands.

To steal from an Efreet, the player first has to lower its health until it is about to die; at this point, the Efreet will hover in place for a moment and then attempt to grab Hector if he is standing in front of it to then perform a suicidal explosion attack. The player has to let themself get grabbed by the Efreet and quickly break free from it (by wiggling the left thumbstick); once the player is free, the Efreet will open its stealing window. It yields the Sun Tears combining material, which is quite rare and is even used on some advanced combinations. After stealing from it, the player would be wise on quickly stepping away from the Efreet, as it will still explode.

Three non-respawning Efreets appear in Baljhet Mountains, near the third Save Room, being the first source of Sun Tears in the game.

The Jin is a stronger variant of the Efreet, although it is Wind based rather than Fire based.
