Steal is a skill Hector possesses in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. It allows him to steal gold, materials and items (sometimes unique) from enemies and bosses.
Overview[]
Stealing requires the player to lock-on an enemy and wait until the cursor turns purple. When this happens, Hector may then attempt to steal from the enemy by pressing the Final Attack button (/). The window of action can be very short (sometimes less than one second), so the player should be ready to steal as soon as possible (Death being the best example and the most difficult enemy to steal from in the entire game). In some cases, Hector will have to perform a specific action in order for an enemy to open its window for stealing. Some examples include:
- Executing a Perfect Guard when an enemy performs a specific attack.
- Executing an uppercut and then immediately jump to steal from the enemy while it is still airborne.
- Knocking the enemy down.
- Freeing oneself from an enemy's grasp.
Most of the time, stealing will cancel the enemy's action. For instance, stealing from a Skeleton while it attacks, will stop the attack.
Availability[]
Hector can obtain the "Steal" ability in Baljhet Mountains, shortly after visiting Julia's shop.

The player needs to Perfect Guard its "backflip" attack. Positioning it between Hector and the flat of a wall will prevent this enemy to bounce back too far, and reducing its health will encourage it to attack this way more frequently. |
Slogra Lv.14, Lv.37, Lv.45 |
While it is rolling backward after a knockback hit. A critical hit with a single-handed sword or axe is one of the more consistent ways to do this. Pinning it to a wall will net more consistent opportunities for stealing.
Wyvern Lv.14 |
Shortcake |
After it slams its head into the ground, jump on its back, and it will fly into the air, taking Hector with it. This is a free opportunity to deal a lot of damage, as Hector cannot fall off without jumping. The window opens for a few seconds before it throws Hector off. |
Phantom Sword Lv.15 |
When it throws its sword. It stands still while waiting for its sword to return, giving a generous steal window.

Great Armor Lv.25, Lv.35, Lv.46 |
Carbon Steel |
When it charges with its shield. There will be an opportunity to steal as it recovers from its attack. |
Skeleton Rider Lv.26, Lv.45 |
Dragon Scale |
Jump and attack the rider to kill it without slaying its mount; this will cause the dinosaur to go berserk and constantly sprint in a charge attack. Hector can steal at any point during this, though caution is advised. |
Ghoul Lv.27, Lv.42, Lv.75 |
Just before its grab attack. It will raise its arms into the air, and throw them downward, in attempt to grab and trap Hector. Steal before it can execute its attack.
Thunder Demon Lv.27,Lv.38, Lv.43 |

The steal window opens during its jump attack, and lasts for less than a second after it lands. Double jump as its coming down to reach its nose, and steal. Caution and a fairy-type I.D. are advised. |
Flame Demon Lv.30, Lv.38, Lv.43 |
Phlogiston |
The steal window opens briefly when the enemy is sent into the air. Pairing a guard attack with a Mage type I.D.'s innate Time Stop ability will make stealing much easier. |
Rapid Sniper Lv.31, Lv.40 |
While it is shooting. Evade and steal when close enough, though this may prove difficult to do so safely, as it fires several bolts in rapid succession.
Iron Gladiator Lv.31, Lv.47 |
Damascus Steel |
During its flail attack. It will detach its spiked ball slightly, and swing in a circular motion, before slamming the ball into the ground. It is during this moment Hector can steal. |
Gi-Lee Lv.31 |
The player needs this enemy to steal an item from them. When it prepares to use a smoke bomb to escape, steal from it. Be careful though, as this enemy usually steals rare items, and there is no retrieving them if the game is saved after.

Undead Lord Lv.33, Lv.38, Lv.43 |
When it attacks Hector by jumping.
Isaac Lv.34 |
Devil's Vein |
At the end of his lunging and fiery upward stabbing attack. Isaac always starts the boss fight with this attack and he very rarely uses it during battle, so it's advisable to steal from him at the beginning. |

When he uses Time Stop on Hector, use Time Stop as well and steal from him during the small window. |

Dark Matter |
The player needs to Perfect Guard his "backflip" attack; staying close to a wall will avoid this enemy to bounce back too far. |
Unicorn Lv.39, Lv.44 |
When it charges at Hector with its book and blades; avoid and steal.
Amduscias Lv.39, Lv.44 |
When it tries to hit Hector with its book.
Trevor Lv.40 |
Curry |
Just when he ends his Grand Cross attack. |
Final Guard Lv.42, Lv.75 |
When it uses its "fire-breathing shield" attack.
Evil Core Lv.42 |
Dark Crystal |
Evil Cores open their stealing window randomly. They also open it when attacked. However, because Steal is bound to the same button as Final Attack, most stealing attempts will chain into a final attack instead. To steal from them, hit them once, immediately open the menu and unequip Hector's weapon, return to the game and steal as soon as he is back on the field. |
Dullahan Lv.49 |
Purple Glitter |
When it jumps in the air to perform its "shockwave" attack; double jump and steal before it lands. |
Isaac Lv.50 |
Cheese |
The player needs to knock him backward, with a critical hit ( button); do so near a wall to prevent this boss to bounce too far from Hector. |
Death Lv.51 |
Death's Pulse |
The window opens at the end of his "nuclear blast" attack and it only stays open for around one second. The player needs to perfect guard each hit from the blast and then steal. Another way to do this, is by using the Magic Circle ability from a Devil-Type Innocent Devil. Yet another method consists in bringing a Tiramisu Innocent Devil and casting Invincible Vase when Death brings up the energy ball before unleashing his ultimate attack; when the attack is about to finish, hold your guard up to block the last hit and immediately jump toward him and steal. |
Legion Lv.52 |
Pizza |
It is possible to steal from it once all external parts are destroyed and the core is revealed. |
Nuculais Lv.53 |
Napoletana |
The player needs to Perfect Guard his "arm grab" attack; run to it and steal. |
Duke Mirage |
When he rushes at Hector with his sword; using Time Stop or Invincible Vase won't work.
Golden Bones |
When he uses its jump attack (just like the normal Skeleton).
Dracula (1) |
Tomato Juice |
When he disappears to grab Hector, avoid and jump to steal from the upper part of his body. |
Dracula (2) |
Vampire Blood |
When he backs away and rushes back with his "fist" attack, avoid and steal from his chest. |
Notes[]
- The first boss, Crazy Armor, is fought before obtaining the 'Steal' skill and can't be fought again during that playthrough. Players will have to challenge him in Boss Rush Mode to steal from him (the same applies to all bosses, it is possible to steal again from them in Boss Rush Mode).
- The Invincible Vase ability disables the ability to steal in many instances, such as with the Duke Mirage, and especially, Death.
