Baselard

The Baselard is a Swiss blade with a distinct I-shaped shaft. Some Baselards are known as Holbein Daggers, after a German artist who often portrayed them. It is usually one of the first encountered, and thus weakest, stabbing Daggers found in a game.

The Basilard is a very quick weapon and allows the player to draw out blood from certain enemies (for healing with Dark Metamorphosis, for example). It's normally used as a stabbing weapon, but can also be used as a slashing weapon by entering a special command. If the player holds down the attack button after the initial attack, Alucard will proceed to hold the dagger near his shoulder, acting like a shield for the purposes of projectile defense, although unable to further damage enemies until attacking again.

It can be obtained very early in the game, near the beginning of the Alchemy Laboratory. Just three rooms into the laboratory, the player will arrive to a room with a small lift on the right side. A small pressure plate can be seen to its left, which makes the device to go up. A Red Skeleton will be pacing back and forth near the plate and the player has to find a way to make it 'operate' the lift so they can ride it up. There are a few ways to do this:

Hit the skeleton right as he's stepping on the plate, which will make the lift to elevate; stand under the lift and wait for the skeleton to reassemble; once he does and moves away from the plate perform a precise jump so you 'land' on the lift at the highest point of your jump as the device is coming down, then quickly jump to the ledge above and to the right. The Basilard can then be picked up on the next room.
Another method is to go fetch and bring an Axe sub-weapon, stand near the lift, throw an axe at the skeleton when he's stepping on the plate and ride the lift up.
