Shoots petrifying projectiles
Original Castlevania lore

Devil Towers and Evil Pillars are sculptures of demonic faces decorating certain columns within Dracula's castle. When approached, they will turn around toward the location of their victims and spew petrifying projectiles in their general direction. The main difference between them is that Devil Towers will shoot only in a horizontal direction and appear early in the game, while Evil Pillars will shoot in a zigzag pattern (up and down), which effectively covers a much wider range, and also appear in later stages.

They have a similar function as the lion head found in the Underground Aqueduct of Castlevania Chronicles, the wall eyes from Bloodlines, or the flame traps from Adventure ReBirth, and may even be compared to the Silhouette Demon boss from Bloodlines.
