Note: Both this stage and the Forgotten City are available to the player the first time they enter the gallery at the Master's Keep, but this stage is considered first, taking into account the numerical order of bosses in the game's Enemies' Guide.

The Dark Academy is a location in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. It is the first painting available to the player after defeating Stella and Loretta in the Master's Keep (the other paintings are protected by an energy barrier). This stage reuses most sprites from the Forest of Doom.

Overview[]

One of the second group of portraits in Portrait of Ruin and a variant of the Forest of Doom. The Dark Academy stays true to its name, looking like a large building. It is eternally raining in this level. Enemies include Dragonflies, Ruler's Sword, Lightkeepers and Mandragoras. The level's boss is the Creature, which bears a strong resemblance to Frankenstein's monster, but with additions such as machine gun elbows and hidden rocket launchers. A notable feature of this stage is the fact that several rooms exhibit ghostly phenomena, such as bloody hand prints on the wall following the characters and an anatomy figure that randomly appears with muscle or as a simple skeleton.
