Constitution is a statistic found in Castlevania. Most often, it is the character's "natural" defense, and their Constitution plus their armor's strength composes the Defense stat proper.
Game specific information
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Constitution first made its debut in the RPG mechanics Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, along with Strength, Intelligence, Luck, Defense, and Attack. Ever since, it has been more or less a staple in the "Metroidvania" style games. It only improves for Alucard, though. As such, Richter Belmont and Maria Renard are more vulnerable in the facet of defense since they do not level up by statistics.
For every 10 points added in Alucard's base Constitution, he gains +1 Defense. However, for every 2.5 points of Constitution from equipment on average, he also gained +1 Defense. In addition, the Poison and Curse status effects are penalized in duration as the Constitution stat increases.
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
The stat is unseen in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, though Defense replaced it for those games.
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
In Aria of Sorrow and the DS games (Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia), for every 2 points of Constitution earned, the character gains +1 Defense.
