Box Puzzles exist in several Castlevania games. They usually consist of pushing around boxes or crates to different locations from which the player can jump, or to place weights over switches on floors or walls.

AppearancesEdit

Castlevania: Symphony of the NightEdit

Symphony of the Night marked the first appearance of box puzzles in the series. However, their implementation was minor and only a couple of instances could be found in the game (Alchemy Laboratory), where Alucard could push a crate over a set of retracting spikes and render them harmless, thus providing him with a new platform with which to reach new areas.

Castlevania (Nintendo 64) / Castlevania: Legacy of DarknessEdit

The Tower of Science in Castlevania (N64) and Legacy of Darkness features boxes that can be menacing obstacles. They move on conveyor belts in an attempt to force the player to fall to their demise. Some boxes have spikes around them and cause damage upon contact. In some regards, they can also be considered "enemies", as they can be locked-on and destroyed.

Castlevania: Circle of the MoonEdit

Circle of the Moon expanded upon the premise of pushing wooden crates first seen in Symphony of the Night. Upon acquisition of the Heavy Ring, Nathan gains the ability to push such boxes. While most crates only need to be pushed out of the way to have access to new upgrade items or whole new areas of the castle, in the Underground Warehouse this ability is vastly used, presenting the player with various combinations of crates and stone blocks (which can be destroyed with the Tackle magic item) which must be moved or removed strategically to advance further.

Castlevania: Harmony of DissonanceEdit

Following the tradition of adding box puzzles in a Castlevania game, Harmony of Dissonance also had a few of them. Scattered throughout different areas of the castle, these ranged from just pushing a box to reach a higher platform, to pushing them onto switches to open doors (Luminous Cavern), to more complicated puzzles which actually required the player to stop and think for a while, like those in the Skeleton Cave.

Castlevania: Order of EcclesiaEdit

Shanoa finds a minor puzzle in the Underground Labyrinth, where she has to push a couple of stone blocks into a flooded room to make the water's level rise and then be able to proceed further.

New to the series this time around, she can also gain the ability to create boxes out of thin air with the Cubus glyph. These cubes can deal minimum damage and petrify enemies.
